FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: AMY SAMIS MARCH 11,2010 PHONE: (903) 784-9289 PARIS CITIZENS ACADEMY ACCEPTING ApPLICATIONS The City of Paris is proud to announce the creation of the Paris Citizens Academy (PCA). The program follows a format similar to Citizens Police Academy that began in the Fall of 2009 but instead focuses on public works, community development, engineering, administration, and utility billing. The goal of both programs is to provide insight to the public on city operations and improve communication and understanding between Paris citizens and their city government. PCA will be slightly shorter at seven weeks in length, meeting in the City Council Chamber (107 East Kaufman) on Thursday nights for 2 y; to 3 hours of instruction. The instructors are all members of the various city departments and will provide instruction and information concerning their particular area of public service. The class will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, and graduate on May 20. Class size is limited, so only those truly interested in making a commitment to the class are asked to apply. Seven class sessions must be attended to successfully graduate from the Citizens Academy. A background check will be conducted on all applicants, and those with felony convictions may not be accepted into this program. This will not be an open forum to discuss grievances, but an opportunity for applicants to learn about the city operations and for the City to learn about the concerns and interests of the applicants. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and live or work in Paris. Class attire will be casual. For more information, contact Ms. Amy Samis at 903-784-9289. Applications are available at the Paris Public Works Department (50 W. Hickory Street), City Hall Annex (150 First Street SE), Water Office (120 E. Kaufman), or on the City's website, www.paristexas.gov. ### P.O. BOX 9037 • PARIS. TEXAS 75461-9037 • (903) 785-7511 • FAX (903) 785-8519 [Application]
