For police officers,
the department operates under Civil Service rules and regulations. Entrance
level examinations are given as vacancies occur. Once an applicant passes
the written test, a physical assessment is taken for final placement on what
is called an eligibility list. This list is good for one year from the
date of the written test, or until all applicants on the list have been processed.
Persons interested in an exciting career in law enforcement with the department
are encouraged to complete a one-page application form. Once completed,
this form enables the department to contact the applicant when a test has
