The Traffic Division works to ensure that growing needs are met in a variety of projects such as painting the landing strips at the Municipal Airport, parking zones, school crosswalks and street signs.

The maintenance of the City’s signs and street markings are an ongoing process and this division works year-round to keep the paint fresh and safely visible.
Additional duties include: creating and maintaining city signs such as yield and crosswalk signs and no parking zones, installing ceramic buttons on road center lines, painting curbs and intersections, and implementing vehicle decals such as the City logo, the Keep Paris Beautiful logo.

What does the Traffic Commission do?

The City of Paris supports a commission referred to as the Traffic Commission. It is within this commission that requests are considered for signs such as ‘stop signs’ or ‘no parking’ signs. The process for such requests are as follows:

STEP 1
Call in request to Asst. Chief Bob Hundley at 903-785-5555.

STEP 2
Depending on the sign requested, a time study may be required. For example, if a request for a stop sign is submitted a study of the intersection is required to ensure the criteria is met for a new sign.

STEP 3
If the request is approved by the commission then the Traffic Division creates the sign and sets it in place. Examples of signs that are not required to be processed by the Traffic Commission are yield signs, dip signs, cross walk signs and Think Child Safety signs.

To report a damaged sign on a City owned street, please call 784-9289.
