Paris EMS is participating in the new BEFAST Stroke Symptom Guidelines campaign.  A heart attack happens when a blood clot blocks blood flow to the heart. Without blood, the tissue loses oxygen and dies. In the United States, every 25 seconds someone has a cardiac event, and every minute someone dies of a cardiac related event. More specifically, 750,000 people die from heart attack every year.  There are often warning signs leading up to a heart attack that people ignore. Approximately 50% of people have symptoms within the two weeks preceding a heart attack. Through early recognition of symptoms and controlling risk factors, heart attacks can be prevented. Recognize ALL the signs!  Stroke happens fast, so BEFAST! Please read and download the attached PDF flyer for more information about these signs - and always call 911 if anyone exhibits these symptoms - remember, TIME is MUSCLE and BRAIN!
